The heavy CPU usage plugs are often the good sounding ones because they did a detailed component model. You will also want to look over the UAD instance chart for CPU usage.
If you do get some basic tools like the 1176 and la2a with it, then you are free to pick say a 1073 EQ or SSL EQ.
